What do you do for fun?
During the fall and winter I enjoy pheasant, quail and turkey hunting. In the “off” season from hunting I enjoy working in the yard and landscaping. Over the years I’ve also owned and enjoyed working on various muscle cars and classics.
What is your favorite book, TV show or movie?
Favorite book-I’ve got several, but if I had to narrow it down to one besides the Bible I’d say “Winning with People” by John Maxwell
Favorite TV Show-I’m not really into any of the new stuff that’s on mostly because I don’t have as much time to watch TV as I once did, but I always come back to “M.A.S.H.”. I even had the opportunity several years ago to play in the band that backed up Jamie Farr who played Klinger on that show.
Favorite Movie-My wife would probably say “all of them” because she thinks I’ve seen every movie ever made, but in actuality I have a handful that I watch over and over. I would say “The Patriot” has to be at or near the top of the list. It portrays tremendous patriotism and a reminder that great things are wrought at great sacrifice.
What is your favorite food?
What is your childhood ambition?
As a child I wanted to be Policeman and even wrote a report about it in 3rd Grade. I suppose being a Pastor is a little like that. We both try to keep the peace and get people to follow “the law”.
What was your first job?
I was 14 and was hired to do handyman work around the Grade School from which I’d just graduated. Rode my bike 5 miles each way and packed my own lunch each day. After that I worked in factories each summer until I was a sophomore in college.
What makes you laugh?
It doesn’t really take much. I like to think I laugh at myself most, but probably laugh at a clever joke more than anything.
Who inspires you?
This could be a long list. First my parents, then I’d say my 4th Grade Teacher Mrs. Bass, High School Band Director Mr. Drillinger, former Pastor of mine Larry Bradshaw, and the many others who have poured into my life over the years.
What is your favorite Bible verse or passage?
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. It’s a reminder that strength comes only THROUGH Christ and not without Him. We can do many things in our own strength, some of them good, but the greatest things we can do happen only through Jesus.
What is one of your favorite characteristics of Christ?
His humility. Why He didn’t zap those disciples from time to time I’ll never understand, but I believe His humility gave him patience and self control with them and us. He served others and cared about others in the deepest way possible.
